46-year-old Milly Chowles (AKA Milly-On-Air) is a busy woman. She’s a DJ, a music industry coach, a podcaster and a single mum to her five-year-old son, which, as you can imagine, doesn’t leave much time for makeup.

“I feel often like I've got a bit of a double life,” Milly explains. “Monday to Friday, I am the mum at the school gates, doing the school run, taking my son to after-school club, and working from home. Then I have the weekend me. That’s where I'm getting dressed up and I'm going to gigs and preparing my sets.”

It’s this so-called double life that Milly credits for helping her to hold onto her identity in those early years of motherhood. “I’ve always been quite into makeup and clothes,” Milly continues. “Obviously, when you become a mum, there's just less time for that. You can kind of lose some of the things that made you you.’ When I have that opportunity to perform and I'm putting on makeup and clothes, it gives me an opportunity to feel like myself again. I'm always amazed at how much confidence I can get from just putting on my makeup.”

Rebuilding her confidence and struggling with a sense of self has been a thread woven through much of Milly’s life. “My entire teens and twenties were kind of decimated by addiction and mental health problems,” Milly shares. “I eventually kind of got into recovery in my thirties, I then relapsed again, and now I am coming up for ten years clean in a few weeks.” An incredible achievement, and ultimately the one which led Milly to her passion for DJing.

“I kind of had to grieve my youth that I didn't live,” Milly says.“I think DJing was a part of amends to myself. I still battle sometimes with those thoughts of, ‘Who are you kidding? You're a middle-aged woman, you're not going to be the next Peggy Gou.’ But I love it, and there's lots of things I do around it that bring me a lot of joy. When you do things that free yourself from those kind of expectations and traditions that are in place to keep us small and limited, you do give other people the permission to free themselves.”

Living without limits has extended into Milly’s makeup too. “I was often taking a full makeup bag to gigs, and that’s not really something you want to have under the desk. With The Stack, I can subtly just have a few little products to touch up.”

“If something can be simplified, I’m a big fan. The fact that these are just applied with a finger and dab means I don’t need to get brushes out. I don’t even really need to look in the mirror because it blends so naturally. I’m also quite messy and spill makeup, but these are unspillable and aren’t going to break in my bag.” Unspillable makeup for an unstoppable woman – these game-changers are only just getting started…
